Word Sorts: The students will be given a spelling assessment the first week of school. This assessment will allow me to support each student of what spelling patterns they will need to work on. Each group will work independently and cooperatively "playing games" to help each other in the reinforcement of their spelling patterns. The students will work on their patterns for two weeks and then have an assessment to see if they have mastered the pattern and if they are ready to move onto the next one. The students will write down their words in their agenda so that they may practice at home.
Math Focus: Students will build on knowledge from last year. Working with numbers up to 20 and then 100, adding, subtracting, using arrays, and money.
Literacy Focus: Our first unit will prepare the students for the rest of the year reading experiences. Students will work on choosing a "just right" book, stamina, building fluency, and comprehension.
Writing Focus: Students will brainstorm ideas about what to write about. Our first unit is narrative writing. Students will write about small moments/experiences. They will build on the writing process from pre-writing to publishing.
Science Focus: N/A
Social Studies Focus: Our first unit will focus on Community. This will include our own classroom community, understanding rules and consequences, and building a community that works well together and supports each other to be successful.
